How to make a tradesman’s website look more legit online in 20 minutes

Looking professional online doesn’t have to be complicated. In this post, we break down five quick fixes you can do in under 20 minutes to make your trade business look more trustworthy — from sorting your Google profile to finally ditching that old Gmail. No faff, just easy wins.

Let’s be honest, when someone’s looking for a plumber, sparkie or roofer, they usually check you out online before they call. If what they find looks like a dodgy Facebook page with your mate’s dog as the cover photo, you’re losing work. Simple as that.

But here’s the good news, looking more professional online doesn’t have to take all day. You can seriously tidy things up in 20 minutes. Here’s how:

1. Google your business

Pop your business name into Google. What shows up?

  • Is your Google profile there?
  • Do the details look right?
  • Are there any decent photos?
  • Can someone click and call you easily?

If not, fix it. A proper Google Business Profile makes a huge difference. It’s free, takes 10 mins to set up, and makes you look 10x more legit. If you’ve already got one, update your hours, add a few photos, and reply to any reviews (even if it’s just a “cheers”).

2. Sort out your email

Still using bobthebuilder123@gmail.com? Time to sack that off.

Having a custom email like info@bobthebuilder.co.uk makes a big difference. It looks professional, shows you’re running a real business, and makes customers more likely to trust you. With our £19/month website, we include that kind of email as standard.

3. Fix your Facebook page

Lots of trades rely on Facebook. That’s fine, but treat it like a business front, not a personal profile.

Here’s what to check:

  • Is your profile photo your logo (or at least your face, not your dog)?
  • Is the cover photo relevant and decent quality?
  • Are your contact details up to date?
  • Have you posted anything in the last few months?

Post something fresh: a recent job, a quick tip, a “free slot next week” post, anything that shows you’re active and working.

4. Get a proper tradesman’s website (yes, even a basic one)

This bit might take longer than 20 minutes to build, but it only takes 2 minutes to decide to sort it.

A basic 3-page website makes a massive difference. It gives people somewhere to go that looks clean, professional, and trustworthy. No more “have you got a website?” awkwardness. Ours costs just £19/month, built in a week, and includes hosting, domain, and email.

It’s not about being fancy. It’s about looking like you mean business.

5. Ask for one good review

Got a happy customer this week? Ask them for a Google review. Send them a quick link. One good review is worth more than any ad, and it only takes 30 seconds for them to leave it.

Do this once a week, and in a few months, your business looks ten times more trustworthy. Drop me a message if you’d like a template to use.

That’s it, job done.

Looking legit online isn’t about being flashy. It’s about showing you’re real, reliable, and ready to do the job. 20 minutes a week doing this kind of stuff adds up.

And if you want to make life easier, we’ll sort the website, Google profile, and email setup for you, no BS, just a decent online setup that helps you win more work.
